Fourth Wing Read-along – Chapter 1

Normally I wouldn’t comment after just one chapter, but I’m 20 pages in and already I can tell that this is ACOTAR with dragons.

Let me be clear, I’m not looking for nor expecting sophistication with anything I read; I’m a big proponent and fan of lots of light, fluffy, brainless bathroom reads. I’ve read a lot of monster porn.

However, I can’t let such obvious similarities in the first 20 pages go without snark.

Xaden is ambiguously ethnic (I’m aware the author has confirmed he’s POC but that could literally mean a thousand different things); he’s the biggest baddest most muscular High Lord in Prythian…..excuse me, dragon person in Basgiath War College. And Violet is delicate and pale and frail and smaller than normal (I know this because it was mentioned approximately 426 times in the first 20 pages) who I’m gonna guess winds up being the baddest badass of them all and worthy equal to Xaden and generally super-special in some way. If this winds up not being true, I swear I will own up to any judgmental statements I might make between now and the end of the book.

At least it wasn’t titled “A Court of Something and Something.”
